Movie store close out. - KRW - 04-10-2010 My local Hollywood Video store is going out of business and is selling all of their stock. I walked out of the store with 20 movies for 20 bucks! SWEET!!! I've already had a Bigfoot/Sasquatch mini marathon, (I found three b rate horror flicks on the smelly brute) and a mini FPW festival with Pelts and Midnight Mass. I've yet to do a Exorcist marathon (I own the first but picked up the second and third) but it'll be coming soon. I also found: Loaded Weapon Duets Mystery Alaska Dead Bang and a whole host of others. I don't know if all the stores are closing, but it might be worth your time to see if any are going under in your neighborhood. Our favorite local video store closed about a year ago. They still carried vhs and dvd. We cleaned up on old vhs movies, 4 for a dollar. There are still plenty of old films (especially Westerns) that aren't on dvd. I miss the store though. I hate Blockbuster. We had to start going to the Blockbuster down the road and now we hear that its about to close. The one nearest to where I live (Blockbuster) closed last August. It seems that the lease came up for renewal and the owner of the building was asking for a tremendous increase for renewing the lease. So Blockbuster vacated. (The premises remained empty for more than seven months.) And the next nearest Blockbuster has increased the rental price and lowered the time of the rental from 7 days to 5 -- with an added charge of a dollar for every day you're late. Ken V. I'm happy that Hollywood is going out of business (the one I worked at is already closed and has been for a few years now). They were almost criminal in how they treated and paid their employees. When I went to salary (which meant no overtime anymore) I did the math and my "raise" was only about 5 -10 cents more than the other hourly manager. Screw them...hope they rot in hell. They used to let me continue to rent movies without paying my late fees. I thought that option was pretty cool. Better rules and chances to rent vs Blockbuster I had always found. Sad though, another company gone under. Movie store close out. - Scott Miller - 04-11-2010 the Hollywoods near me have been closed for a few years now and half the Blockbusters as well. Until recently I had a pass at Blockbusters that allowed me one movie or game out at a time that I could swap as many times as I wanted that was $22 a month. I thought it was worth it. I still go in to peruse the titles, see what's out there. I do hope that we always have at least one store that rents just so I can go and do just that. Seems people would be more inclined to rent movies during a down economy or tight times. But the business model of Hollywood and Blockbuster just never evolved to deal with the competition of Netflix, Redbox and other companies like that. I wish I would have gotten wind of closures and been able to get some deals like KRW but the BLockbuster and the Hollywood near us closed overnight it seemed. No notice, just closed up and gone. |
