The Incredible Hulk - Mick C. - 06-14-2008
Just saw this and enjoyed it. If you're a fanboy (or fangirl), there are SO many in-jokes and references (to the TV series and other Marvel comics) you'll enjoy it on that basis alone (including a huge moment at the very end.)
Norton is great, as is Roth. The FX are not bad, you get more of a sense of weight on the CGI Hulk than in the first one. The opening chase in the Favela in Rio is very good, as are the other setpiece battles. A big relief after seeing the first one.
And hey, Rickson Gracie teaches Banner some Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in it!

I saw it Friday and thought it was really, really good. Much, much better than the Ang Lee version, and almost as good as Iron Man. I especially enjoyed all the nods to the TV show and (imagine this) the comics.

Maybe that Ed Norton knows what he's doing afterall. I read that he got final approval of the script and rewrites. If he were a fan of the Hulk that would make sense.

I read that both Ed Norton and Tim Roth are comic book fans, and Norton especially introduced a lot of elements from the comic books.

I like that Marvel is setting a multi-movie continuity in motion. Iron Man has hints of the next movie with the terrorist group (The Ten Rings), Hulk has Samuel Stern (the comic book alter-ego of The Leader), and they are all pointing to the eventual Avengers movie.
There are also all the litter Easter eggs for comic book geeks like myself, like the fact that Betty was dating Doc Sampson, and part of Captain America's shield is visible on Stark's desk.
I'm looking forward to several more years of Marvel movies.:cornut:

All in all, I really liked it. Much better than the first Hulk. But the question begs, If they want the Hulk ( or at least the technology that makes him the Hulk) for a weapon, all you would need for a defense would be a pretty girl. Right?

I had read in a review that "another Marvel superhero" pops up in the Hulk, and I was waiting to see who it would be...near the end, with Banner in Canada, I was sure Wolverine would be brought in at the ending (as he had his first appearance battling the Hulk in Canada...). Maybe Hugh Jackman was unavailable.
Fun to see all the TV references too - the quick shot of Bill Bixby, Lou as the guard (who also did the Hulk's voice in this one); the reference to the video at the college being shot by the reporter who hounded him in the TV series...[/COLOR]

As one of only a few people who actually liked the first movie(and I don't even like the Hulk) I wasn't thrilled about a second helping of the big green guy. Boy I was I wrong; what a good movie. I think it had the best pace for any of the marvel movies and the action scenes were intense. I enjoyed all the in jokes that I got(I probably missed a few), but especially liked the big hand clap. I thought the CGI was generally excellent except for The Abomination and at times the Hulk's face seemed wavy. Overall, I rank it right up there with Iron Man.
